When Myspace and Facebook were first created no one believed that they would become as popular as they are today. Social Networking is the thing of the future. It is a way to connect with people from around the world and a way to advertise the things you do and even sell. Yahoo! And Google have been feeling left out of the loop – which is why they are taking steps to update the way they do things.
They are both transforming their e-mails and creating a social graph (the connection between the different people). Yahoo Is working on something that they are calling Inbox 2.0 – which will leverage the data that is being collected into the e-mail accounts as well as the user’s personal homepage.
“The inbox you have today is based on what people send you, not what you want to see,” said Brad Garlinghouse, the executive of communication and community at Yahoo. “We can say, here are the messages from the people you care about most.”
Garlinghouse also stated that the new and improved Inbox 2.0 will allow you to link to any of your friend’s profile page and keep you up to on your friend’s birthdays. These are similar to the features that you receive on Myspace.
Google has decided to keep quiet on the matter and to not let any of their secret plans be known by the enemies. We can only assume that they are taking some of the same steps that Yahoo is.
