With its new email service in real time, the group hopes to improve communication for the deaf and hard of hearing users.
AOL has developed an instant messaging system designed specifically for the deaf and hard of hearing.The client operates in real time and adds text messages as of the seizure, without waiting for the order of transmission.
“This is a great victory for AOL and the community of deaf and hard of hearing,” he says. “The use of text in real time is becoming more and more as an alternative to voice communications for users with disabilities.”
The software, developed in collaboration with Gallaudet University in Washington and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is currently in the testing.
