For those of you who have been praying for the unlocked iPhones to lower down from the high price of $1,483 we are happy to say that it has finally happened. France Telecom Orange is offering unlocked standalone iPhones for only $964. I know that to some people this is still a steep price to pay for a cellphone – but you have to remember that the iPhone is not just another phone.

When information reached our ears of Google’s new Android cellphone - the Gphone - we immediately believed that it would be the newest competition against the Apple iPhone. However, analysts Piper Jaffray and his co-analyst, Gene Munster are convinced that they are targeting completely different sections of the cellphone industry.
The goal of the iPhone is to weaken those the people who control how most handset are created and sold. On the other hand Google’s free Android system is supporting the idea that handset manufacturers be charged a licensing fee for the software that they use.

AppSnapp opens both the iPhone and iPod touch, then installs another 
program, Installer.app, which in turn can install unauthorized, non-Apple programs.
Hackers have released a tool that “jailbreaks” up-to-date iPhones and iPod touches, but unlike previous such software, doesn’t require a Mac or PC as a middleman.
As an added bonus, the software, dubbed AppSnapp 1.1.1, patches a vulnerability in the stripped-down Mac OS X both devices use that had been exploited previously to unlock iPhones.
Created by a group of nine developers, among them HD Moore of Metasploit fame, AppSnapp opens both the iPhone and iPod touch, then installs another program, Installer.app, which in turn can install unauthorized, non-Apple programs. The iPhone and iPod touch must be running the current firmware, version 1.1.1, the AppSnapp hackers said.

Apple Inc. no longer accepts cash for iPhone purchases and now limits sales of the cell
phone to two per person in a move to stop people from reselling them.
The new policy started Thursday, said Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris. Before then, there was no cash restriction and the purchase limit was five per person.
“Customer response to the iPhone has been off the charts, and limiting iPhone sales to two per customer helps us ensure that there are enough iPhones for people who are shopping for themselves or buying a gift,” Kerris said. “We’re requiring a credit or debit card for payment to discourage unauthorized resellers.”
More than 1.4 million units of the hybrid cell phone-iPod have been sold since it debuted on June 29, according to Apple. It is expected to be a hot gift for the holidays.
Apple thinks some people already have purchased multiple iPhones to resell, including those looking to modify, or “unlock,” the phones so they work on networks other than Apple’s carrier partner in the United States, AT&T Inc.

Apple has warned it’s customers that people attempting to unlock the phone may find that the phone becomes permenantly inoperable:
“The company said that modified mobiles would become permanently inoperable once Apple updates were installed. It follows a flurry of hacks claiming to unlock the phone, which is tied into the US AT&T network and O2 in the UK.
Apple has denied that it is doing anything proactively to disable iPhones that have been hacked or unlocked. The warning will be seen as a pre-emptive strike by Apple in the ongoing battle with hackers who are increasingly making unlocking software available to iPhone users. ”
