Two important companies – Nielsen and Digimarc – are creating new ways to crack down on web pirates by protecting the articles that people write about on their personal and work related websites. There are many people out there who steal articles from other sites and place it on their own without giving the credit to the original source.
Their service – which they are trying to have ready by 2008 – will protect websites by using digital watermarking and fingerprinting as a way of keeping track of where the content is going. They are trying to show people just how important their original content is. “We believe these services will stimulate the growth of online video distribution, to the benefit of consumers, content providers and distributors,” said David Calhoun, Nielsen’s chairman and CEO.
